common geographic database

is a bit of time I flashed in his head the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a complete and updated database of all the municipalities of Italy contained the most information possible.

After a long process I could in my view, creating a database that contains within it geographical information for each municipality. Made with postgres and postgis subsequently been transformed and made Mysql to support the needs of those who wish to use this database on the internet offering shared hosting services mainly for MySQL database.

Many people ask what can serve a geographic database for municipalities. Well the answer is very simple, just see a small example of what I made with this database:

http://www.symrad.net/

To put it simply, in this you have a map navigation on three different levels depending on the zoom level adopted, for example:
the zoom level that ranges from 0 to 7 can be seen from the regional boundaries
zoom level ranging from 8 to 14 is can see from the provincial borders
zoom level from 15 onwards you can see the municipal boundaries

Furthermore, pointing the mouse over the polygons you can see in the box on the right crest and the name of the regions, provinces or municipalities (always depending on the zoom level where you are).

The database consists of 8 tables:

Regions (20 lines)
Geometrieregioni (20 lines)
Provinces (110 lines)

Provincegeometrie (110 lines) Capgrandicitta (90,264 lines, as every big city like Milan, Rome has more ZIP codes in the database for each city that has these requirements are all the way with post code)

Fractions (55,207 lines)

Some goodies in the database are:
The presence of coats of arms of regions, provinces and municipalities (for the municipalities have 8000 badges).
The latitude and longitude of the communes and villages. The boundaries
regional, provincial and municipal. The CAP of large cities. Web sites of 7354 municipalities.

Information on individual municipalities such as population, patron saint, the feast of the town, maximum and minimum latitude, latitude town hall, register code, locator code, Istat, climatic zone, and more.

The database is updated with the new provinces and new municipalities.
